March 26, 2025 – A joint operation by the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) Customs Officers and the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) led to the seizure of a quantity of foreign cannabis at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) on Wednesday.

Acting on intelligence, officers conducted a search of an incoming barrel from the United States at the Laparkan Cargo Shed, where they discovered several transparent parcels containing cannabis. The confiscated narcotics, weighing approximately 2.75 kilograms, were transported to CANU’s headquarters for further examination.

Authorities say this operation is part of ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking through Guyana’s borders. GRA Customs and CANU continue to collaborate in strengthening security measures and intercepting illicit substances concealed in shipments.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing
