September 10 2025
An 18-year-old Sophia, Greater Georgetown resident has been remanded to prison after being accused of assaulting a woman during an attempted robbery at the Kingston Seawall.
Irano Phillips, of ‘C’ Field, Sophia, appeared on Tuesday before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge of assault with intent to commit robbery.
The court heard that on September 6, 2025, Phillips allegedly attacked Annalisa James while she was at the seawall.
According to the prosecution, he struck James twice to the head as he attempted to snatch her work bag.
In a bid to protect her belongings, James reportedly threw her mobile phone away to prevent it from being stolen.
After listening to the prosecution’s submissions, Magistrate Mc Gusty refused bail and ordered that Phillips be remanded.
The matter has been adjourned until October 1, 2025, for report and statements.
