Two Remanded on Firearm and Ammunition Charges

September 10 2025
Two men were recently remanded to prison after being jointly charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition without being the holders of a licence.
The accused, 26-year-old Andra Stuart and 25-year-old Tyrone Arthur, appeared before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where they pleaded not guilty to the charges.
According to the particulars, on Sunday, August 31, at Lot 84 Guyhoc Park, Georgetown, the duo allegedly had in their possession six live 9mm rounds of ammunition and one Glock 9mm pistol without being licensed to do so.
Both defendants were represented by attorney-at-law Ronald Bostwick, who argued that his clients are charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and not with discharging the weapon.
He further contended that, according to his clients, the police entered their premises without a warrant.
Bostwick reminded the court that both men are presumed innocent, do not have passports, and are labourers who are usually engaged at work. He maintained that they are not flight risks and requested that bail be granted, even under strict reporting conditions.
The prosecutor, however, objected to bail, stating that no special reasons were presented to justify release. He pointed out that Arthur currently has a similar charge pending.
The court was told that on the day in question, police acted on information, went to the premises of the accused, and conducted a search during which the gun was found.
The prosecutor further stated that the weapon was linked to Stuart’s previous charge of discharging a loaded firearm.
He added that video evidence exists showing the defendants in possession of the firearm, although both men denied the allegations in a video interview with investigators.
After considering the submissions, Magistrate Latchman denied bail, citing the absence of special reasons and the prevalence of the offence.
She also informed the defendants of their right to seek a judicial review in the High Court.
The matter was adjourned to September 17, 2025.
