Businessman held with gun, ammo at Wismar Bridge

October 21 2026

A 51-year-old Linden businessman was arrested on Tuesday night after police allegedly found a pistol and six rounds of ammunition in his pants pocket during an operation near the western end of the Wismar-Mackenzie Bridge.

The suspect, identified as Sherwin Hugues, called “Cutty”, of Blueberry Hill, Wismar, was the lone occupant of a black Toyota Fielder Wagon, registration number PAG 7581, when police intercepted the vehicle at around 21:55 hrs on October 20, 2026.

A search of Hugues reportedly uncovered a black-and-silver pistol bearing the markings of Jimenez Arms Inc., Las Vegas, Nevada, with a magazine containing six live rounds of .25-calibre ammunition in his left pants pocket.

Police said Hugues is not a licensed firearm holder. He was informed of the offence, arrested and cautioned.

According to investigators, Hugues admitted possessing the weapon, claiming that he had it for his own protection because he was robbed and shot in 2016.

A subsequent search of the motor car reportedly uncovered nothing illegal.

Hugues was escorted to the Wismar Police Station, where the firearm and ammunition were marked, sealed and lodged as investigations continued.

He remains in police custody pending charges.
