A member of a Hindu temple has been detained by detectives investigating the gruesome murder of six-year-old Orlando Jaikarran, as investigators probe reports that the child’s father consulted a temple member shortly before the killing.
The reason for the temple official’s detention remains unclear. However, reports indicate that he may have played a role in events leading up to the child’s death.
Orlando’s father, Bharrat Jaikarran, reportedly consulted a temple member shortly before the six-year-old was killed, and investigators are now probing the circumstances surrounding that interaction.
The child’s headless body was discovered on Tuesday, October 20, in the Water Street Main Canal at Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice, at a location where his father had reportedly said he disposed of the corpse.
Police sources said the partly decomposed body was found facedown in the canal, with the child’s head and left hand missing, along with portions of his left foot. The child’s neck also reportedly bore a chop wound.
Orlando, affectionately called “Lil Boy”, was last seen with his father in the early hours of Thursday, October 15.
CCTV footage obtained by investigators reportedly captured Bhartat lifting the child and walking away with him before returning alone.
The footage has become a key part of the investigation as detectives work to establish what happened to the six-year-old and whether anyone else was involved in his brutal killing.
The latest detention marks another development in the disturbing case, with investigators continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding Orlando’s death.
