DEAD: 62-year-old Mohamed Rasheed

A post-mortem performed on the remains of 62-year-old Mohamed Rasheed of Belle West, West Bank Demerara provided the cause of death as a combination of heart failure, lung failure, and Cirrhosis of the liver.

The postmortem was conducted on Thursday morning by government pathologist Dr. Nehaul Sing who in his report, also stated that there was trauma to the back of the head and chest of the deceased but those were not responsible for his death.

On January 13, 2020, Mohamed Rasheed’s son; Ally Rasheed reported to the police that he received information that his father was kicked to his abdomen by a ‘long hair’ man.

The 42-year-old rushed his father to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where treatment was administered and he subsequently admitted a patient at the said facility.

Later on that same day, at approximately 08:50hrs Ally who accompanied the police to an area at Belle West, West Coast Demerara pointed out a ‘long hair’ man as the suspect who later provided his name as Elvis Williams, 24 years of 315 Belle West, Housing Scheme. The 24-year-old was pointed out as the person who kicked the 62-year-old, based on information received.

On the following day when police visited the injured Mohamed Rasheed at the hospital, he was being attended to by a doctor but two hours alter he passed away while receiving medical treatment at approximately 11:00hrs.

The doctor’s explanation that the deceased was suffering from a lung infection and wheezing was confirmed in the post-mortem which was conducted earlier this morning.

Police did interview Williams concerning the allegation that he assaulted the elderly man but he denied those claims. He also denied that he had any physical and or verbal interaction of contact with the now-deceased man.
