April 1 2025 – A 59-year-old housewife from Good Hope (Sand Road), Essequibo Coast, has been charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking and has been remanded to prison.

Shameena Budhu was apprehended by police on Sunday, March 30, 2025, after being found in possession of 2.03 grams of cocaine. She was subsequently charged and brought before the Suddie Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.

Magistrate Tamieka Clarke presided over the hearing, during which the charge was formally read to Budhu. She pleaded not guilty. However, the prosecution objected to bail, leading to her immediate remand to prison.

The case has been adjourned to April 17, 2025, for a report as investigations continue.
