A 19-year-old female was on Tuesday charged and remanded to prison for drug trafficking after the Guyana Police Force unearthed 17.1 kilograms of cannabis at her residence.

Anasia McAllister was arranged before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court where she denied the charge which stated that on March 26, 2022, at Perry Street, Tucville Georgetown, she had 17.1 kilograms of suspected cannabis in her possession for the purpose of trafficking. She was remanded to prison and will make her next court appearance on April 19th

According to the police, on the day in question, police ranks went to the woman’s Tucville home to conduct an investigation where they discovered two brown boxes under a bed containing several ducked taped parcels. The parcels were opened in McAllister’s presence and were found to have several quantities of leaves, seeds and stem suspected to be cannabis.

She was taken into custody and transported to the Narcotics Branch of the GPF where the suspected cannabis was weighed in her presence. The substance amounted to 37.70 pounds, equivalent to 17.1 kilograms and was confirmed to be cannabis. She was immediately arrested.
