DEAD;Osafo Pollard

A 24-year-old labourer was today charged for the execution-style killing of a taxi driver at a birthday celebration.

Leroy Jones was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that between February 02, 2021, and February 3, 2021, at North East La Penitence, Georgetown, he murdered Osafo Pollard.

Jones appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. He was remanded to prison until March 2, 2021.

According to reports, around 22:30 hrs between the period mentioned in the charge, a loud explosion similar to a gunshot was first heard followed by persons screaming and running away.

Shortly after which 29-year-old Pollard of West La Penitence was seen lying on the ground with a wound to his head.

The injured man was subsequently picked up and taken to Georgetown Public Hospital where he died about 00:20hrs on February 3, 2021, while receiving treatment.

The matter was reported to the police and following an investigation, Jones was arrested and charged for the offense.
