Serial Thief Jailed for 24 Months After Stealing From Student

November 26 2024 – Krishna Dindial, a 41-year-old man with a history of theft convictions, was sentenced to 24 months in prison after pleading guilty to stealing a Queen’s College student’s Apple iPhone and Lenovo laptop.

The electronics, valued at $300,000 and $270,000 respectively, were stolen from 17-year-old Guynarine Sookdeo on November 20, 2024, at Camp Street and Thomas Lands, Georgetown.

Dindial, of Lot 222 Goed Fortuin, West Coast Demerara (WCD), appeared before Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where he admitted to the crime.

Police reports revealed that Dindial is a repeat offender. In 2022, he was convicted of theft and served a one-year prison sentence. The following year, he was fined $80,000 for another theft, with an alternative sentence of six months’ imprisonment.

On the day of the incident, Sookdeo left his haversack containing the stolen items unattended while playing cricket. Upon discovering the theft, he used another device to track his iPhone to Goed Fortuin, WCD, where it was located at a relative’s home connected to Dindial.

After Sookdeo contacted the relative, the stolen items were retrieved. Dindial was subsequently arrested, confessed to the crime during questioning, and was charged.

While the stolen items were returned to Sookdeo before the court proceedings, Magistrate Azore imposed the custodial sentence due to Dindial’s repeated offences.
