“Misconduct Among Officers Will Not Be Tolerated- Director of Prisons
The Guyana Prison Service (GPS) remains steadfast in upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity among its ranks. Director of Prisons, Mr. Nicklon Elliot, has reaffirmed that any misconduct by officers will not be condoned and will result in swift disciplinary action.
This strong stance follows a recent incident involving Prison Officer Marvin DeSouza, whose unethical behavior was widely circulated on social media. The Senior Superintendent of Prisons, Mr. Kofi David, Acting Officer-in-Charge of the Lusignan Prison, has been instructed to ensure prompt disciplinary measures are taken against Mr. DeSouza, who was operating the prison minibus at the time of the incident.
Investigations into the matter also revealed that Cadet Officer Keon David, who held command responsibility for the vehicle, failed to exercise adequate control and oversight. As a result, disciplinary proceedings will also be initiated against him.
Director Elliot described the incident as regrettable and emphasized that the GPS is committed to fostering public trust by ensuring all officers perform their duties with professionalism and accountability.
“The Guyana Prison Service expects all its officers to act with the utmost integrity and professionalism in carrying out their responsibilities. Misconduct of any kind undermines the trust placed in us by the public and will not be tolerated,” stated Director Elliot.
