A 31-year-old man has been charged in connection with an alleged attempt to assassinate the President during the high-profile White House Correspondents’ Dinner held on Saturday night in Washington, D.C.
The accused, Cole Tomas Allen, appeared in federal court on Monday dressed in blue scrubs, where he faced multiple charges, including attempting to assassinate the President, discharging a firearm during a violent crime, and transporting a firearm and ammunition across state lines.
According to prosecutors, Allen allegedly breached United States Secret Service security while armed with a shotgun, pistol, and knives during the event, which was being held at the Washington Hilton.
At the time of the incident, Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and several Cabinet members were reportedly attending the dinner on a separate floor of the venue.
Prosecutors are seeking to have Allen remanded to pretrial detention as court proceedings continue.
The matter remains under active judicial review.
