A post-mortem examination has revealed that 14-year-old Aleena Preetam died as a result of heart failure and anaemia.

The examination was conducted on Thursday, February 26, 2026, between 10:30hrs and 10:45hrs at the Suddie Public Hospital Mortuary.

Government Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh performed the procedure and provided the official cause of death.

The teen’s body has since been handed over to her family for burial.

Police in Regional Division #2 had launched an investigation into the unnatural death following the discovery at her home in Supenaam, on the Essequibo Coast.

Reports indicate that the teenager, who lived with her parents and her one-month-old child, was last seen alive on Sunday evening, February 22, 2026.

At about 05:30hrs the following morning, relatives attempted to wake her but found her unresponsive.

She was rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Initial examinations revealed no visible marks of violence.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death are ongoing.
