Man killed, women and children injured as COVID patient goes berserk

A young girl who was injured in the process

A 14-year-old boy who tested positive for COVID-19, and has been in isolation, went berserk on Thursday killing his brother-in-law, injuring his sisters and at least three children.

Dead is 55-year-old Ramdat Singh, a labourer, of Bat Creek, Upper Pomeroon River, and formerly of Aberdeen, Essequibo Coast.

We were told that the incident, which took place at Bat Creek, stemmed from the teen being on self-isolation, which may have caused him to become hysterical.

BIG Smith News Watch was told that the now deceased Singh lived his wife Adona Williams, who is the sister of the suspect.  She told detectives that she and her husband live approximately 600 feet from the suspect.

The suspect lives with another sister Joani Williams, 22, her children Nalie Williams, 6, Kissoon Williams, 3, and Chrissy Williams, 1.

Joani Williams related that on Thursday, she and her three children, along with her other sister, Jennel Williams, left home for the landing to bathe. They spent half an hour there. The 14-year-old was asleep at home.

It was on their way back to the home that the woman noticed her brother, armed with a knife about eight inches long, rush towards Ramdat Singh, who was standing in the yard, and begin to stab him about the body until he fell to the ground.

Upon witnessing that, the woman started screaming and the 14-year-old suspect rushed towards her and dealt her four stabs to her chest. She said she tried to run away, but he fired a stab at her one-year-old son who sustained a wound to his back, while Kissoon Williams received a stab to his lower abdomen.

The suspect then ran towards the landing where Nalie Williams was, and slashed her throat while inflicting four stab wounds to the chest of Jennel Williams, before making good his escape.

Ramdat Singh, Joanie Williams, Nallie Williams, Kissoon Williams and Chrissy Williams, were all placed into a boat and escorted to the Charity Wharf. They were then rushed to the Charity Hospital, where Singh was pronounced dead on arrival.

Observations showed that he was stabbed to the chest and right and left side abdomen. The others were treated for their injuries, but Kissoon Williams and Nallie Williams were rushed to undergo emergency surgeries.

The police are continuing their investigations into the matter.
