Indian PM Narendra Modi Arrives in Guyana for Historic State Visit

November 20, 2024 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the Republic of India arrived in Guyana yesterday evening for a three-day State Visit, marking a significant step in strengthening ties between the two nations.
Upon his arrival at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Prime Minister Modi was warmly received by President Dr. Irfaan Ali.
The welcome delegation included Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha, other Cabinet Ministers, and senior officials from the Joint Services.
Later that evening, President Ali hosted Prime Minister Modi at the Guyana Marriott Hotel in Georgetown, where the Indian leader was introduced to several CARICOM leaders attending the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit. The summit aims to deepen cooperation between India and Caribbean nations on a range of issues, including trade, technology, and sustainable development.
Prime Minister Modi also engaged with members of the Indian diaspora in Guyana and witnessed a vibrant cultural display under the “One Guyana” initiative, celebrating the nation’s unity in diversity.
Today, the two leaders are set to participate in high-level meetings and oversee the signing of several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), further solidifying bilateral partnerships in key sectors such as agriculture, renewable energy, and technology.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit underscores the growing partnership between India and Guyana, building on shared values and a commitment to regional and global development.
