November 18 2024 โ€”Commissioner of Police Mr. Clifton Hicken welcomed five ranks of the Guyana Police Force who were able to complete the New York Police Department (NYPD) Police Academy’s Driver Education Training Programme, which was conducted from November 11 to 14, 2024.

The training was done at the NYPD Academy in Bloomfield, Brooklyn, United States of America.
Ranks who participated in the training are stationed at various departments in the Guyana Police Force, namely Presidential Guard, Police Regional Division #7, and Police Regional Division 4 ‘A’, and they all gained certification upon completion. The names are as follows:
1. Sergeant C. Pedro
2. Sergeant J. Patterson
3. Sergeant D. Sitaram
4. Sergeant K. Gordon
5. Corporal E. Bowlin
The training covered a wide range of topics in the enhancement of emergency vehicle operation skills, including:
โ€ข Maintaining speed limits in critical scenarios
โ€ข Management of time during emergency responses
โ€ข Safe maneuvering techniques under high-pressure conditions
They also had an overview of critical driving techniques such as obstacle course driving, that is usually practiced in real life. The ranks also visited the NYPD Joint Operational Center located in Queens New York as part of the programme.
This gave them a hands-on view of how integrated, modern operational functions work and took their outlook on coordinated law enforcement efficiency to new levels. It is envisioned that the expertise and know-how acquired during this course will significantly enhance the operational capacity of the Guyana Police Force in response to emergencies and the protection of public safety.
The Guyana Police Force is recognising these officers for their commitment and dedication to professional development, while looking forward with anticipation to the positive impact their training will have on Guyanese policing. (Guyana Police Force)
