Calvin Brutus Granted $10M Bail Amid New Liability of Officer Charges

November 18 2024- Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and attorney-at-law Calvin Brutus was granted bail totaling $10,050,000 on Monday after being slapped with 201 additional charges for the offence of liability of officer.
The charges were read to him by acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistratesโ Courts.
This latest wave of allegations adds to Brutus’ mounting legal troubles, which include previous charges filed just last month. Those earlier accusations involve money laundering, misconduct in public office, and larceny by a public officer.
Bail for these charges was set at $6.2M, bring his total bail to $16, 250,000.
According to prosecutors, the cases revolve around the alleged misappropriation of more than $800 million during Brutus’ tenure as Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police for Administration.
Investigators allege that Brutus exploited his position to divert public funds into dubious projects, with a substantial portion reportedly funneled into bank accounts held by his wife and son.
Despite the gravity of the allegations, the 44-year-old senior police officer has steadfastly maintained his innocence, dismissing the claims as baseless.
Brutus, represented by a high-profile legal team, is scheduled to return to court next month as the matters continue.
