Two to face charges in AK-47 investigation

The Guyana Police Force has received legal advice in relation to its investigation into the discovery of ten AK-47 rifles on May 22, 2026, and the subsequent enquiries carried out by investigators.
According to the police, the Legal Advisor has recommended that Gregory Persaud be charged with the offence of Possession of Firearms, contrary to Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:05, in relation to a firearm magazine.
Additionally, legal advice has been given for both Antonio Alonzo Lawrie and Gregory Persaud to be charged with the offence of Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, contrary to Section 33 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01 of the Laws of Guyana.
The Guyana Police Force said it has accepted the legal advice and is taking the necessary steps in accordance with the legal process.
Stephen Rajah, a Goed Fortuin taxi driver has been remanded to prison after being charged in connection with the crime.
Police added that further in with information will be released as the matter progresses.
