Four lane Mandela highway will pave the way for new housing, commercial lands- Minister Croal.
The four lane Mandela to Eccles Highway will not only alleviate traffic congestion on the East Bank corridor, it is expected to pave the way for the development of new housing and commercial sites.
This is what Minister of Housing and Water Colin Croal explained a virtual presentation at the Regency Hotel during an inter-agency coordination committee consultation session.
That session signals commencement of the high way project.
The Minister said that the Government of Guyana, is working “assiduously to link communities and even regions, as part of the one Guyana initiative.”
Infrastructural development plays a pivotal role in the establishment and future development of housing schemes Minister within the Housing Ministry, Susan Rodrigues told those gathered.
The Minister pointed out that housing is “cramped” in Central Georgetown, this may see persons seeking alternative housing out of the city.
“In order for us to convince persons to accept allocations out of Central Georgetown, they should have no fear or they shouldn’t be concern about the travel time from where they’re being allocated to,” the Minister said.
“They must be assured that government has a comprehensive approach to housing development and other developments. They must know without a doubt that they can have the ease of getting to work in a timely manner. This is why infrastructural development is so important for future development.” He added.
Minister Susan Rodrigues encouraged all agencies involved, to put their differences aside, and work for the future development of all Guyanese.
“The way going forward must be collective, through cooperation. By having this first session on this project the four land high way from mandala to Eccles, we look forward to this type of continued participation and cooperation on other projects in the future, this may be one project, but it involves all of these agencies to make it a success,” the Minister said.
Minister Croal echoed similar sentiments, “We will continue to have a consultative approach towards all projects so that all of us can have an input and at the end of the day a successful project.”
The consultation session also highlighted the need importance of a multi-stakeholder approach, in the developmental process.
The session was joined by Permanent Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Central Housing and Planning Authority, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, Regional Chairman of Region Four, Mayor and deputy major of Georgetown along with councillors and other key agencies.
