Likely assassination of Azruddin, alleged ‘state sanction’ worry the Mohameds’

City Businessman Nazar ‘Shell’ Mohamed who remained silent for months following sanctions imposed by the United States Treasury Department on him, his son Azruddin Mohamed and their companies, has now come forward as the family continues to feel the squeeze.
In a video message uploaded to the family’s Team Mohamed’s Facebook Page, the elder Mohamed, among other things, spoke about his family’s inability to do business in Guyana, sexual allegations against his son Azruddin Mohamed, misrepresentation of the US imposed sanctions, and his son being the possible target of assassins.
The businessman said it will be an understatement if he is to say that the sanctions have not affected his family. “I have seen, read and heard from some senior people within the political structure deliberately misrepresenting what the sanction is about” Mohamed said. He clarified that the sanctions have blocked them from doing business with United States Citizens and companies, all of whom left his company or severed associations after the sanctions were announced.
Since the sanctions, many individuals and persons locally have also severed ties with the Mohamed Family. His son, Azruddin Mohamed, has been doing charitable work and posting photographs with recipients. The elder Mohamed said one of the misrepresentations about the sanctions imposed against him and his family, is that anyone associated with them will have their visa revoked or be sanctioned by the United States.
“To say anyone who associates themselves with us will be sanctioned is Ludacris. They have said lots of people lost their visas and I am not aware of that, the daily news and Guyanese critics are surrogates. A lot of people lost their Visas for being associated with the ruling government, Nazar Mohamed said in a video message.
The Senior Mohamed explained that he is unaware of where the hostility is coming from as he has always been close with the Peoples’ Progressive Party even while offering support to other political parties.
“The difficulties I am getting now are like we have never gotten before,” he stressed. According to him, the constitution protects him and no one should block him from doing business in his own country. Mohamed plans to engage the courts for his inability to do business in Guyana as the sanctions did not block him from doing business in his own country.
“We have for the past fourteen years had about 80,000 acres of mining land and we never had an issue of renewing its yearly and paying all the royalties on it, I wrote the commissioner and I called and he said he will get back to me…we are contemplating going to the court on this”
The businessman explained that he has a quarry license and that they were later advised that someone has applied to conduct mining operations on the said land. According to him, there is also an issue where a businessman has for the past four years been buying 99.9 percent of gold from Venezuelan men dressed in army uniform, exporting the same gold and depositing billions from the earnings into a local bank, no investigations have been taking place about that matter. He said the operation of the businessman almost placed the country’s financial system in crisis, but silence remains.
Concerning recent claims by a so far unidentified and uncontactable young lady who has come forward to level rape allegations against Azruddin Mohamed, the elder Mohamed had this to say. “I have instilled values in my family. We took on a private investigator and it was confirmed that this is plan by people close to the pp administration and I disturbed by it and I want to thank the public for standing with Azruddin because the plan was that if the public had bought into it and carried pressure, then it would have gone to a different stage and the police would have come in”
Nazar Mohamed expressed concerns that his son could be the target of an assassination. As 2025 began, a different focus was placed on Azruddin Mohamed who released a New Year’s Message that resonated with the masses and sought to give off ‘Presidential vibes” according to persons in some circles.
Since then, Azruddin has ramped up his charitable ventures and has been moving across the country meeting with people who have been publicly and openly calling for him to run for president in the upcoming General Elections. There has been no official word from Azruddin, his father or the family on whether the younger Mohamed will be throwing his hat into the presidential race.
“If my son wants to go into politics, that is his choice and I would advise him on integrity and so on. I want to ask the public to be vigilant because too many things have started happening, and I don’t rule out the possibility of an assassination attempt toward my son because strange occurrences have been happening,” Businessman Nazar Mohamed said in his video message.
