SOCU criminally ducks key evidence in Brutus probe; court says find them

The plot by the Special Organised Crime Unit to botch Calvin Brutus investigation was partly exposed in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Thursday and has served as a slap in the face of the Guyana Police Force and by extension the state.
Since the commencement of the Calvin Brutus investigation, SOCU has been performing some very daring, unprofessional and unlawful maneuvers as they seek to please some political players and at the same time deny Calvin Brutus, his wife Adonika Alder, his driver Kevin George and businessman Asif Zaferally, a fair trial in accordance with the constitution.
Witness tampering, statement fixing, omission of key evidence and statements, fabrication of occurrences and ordeals, a plot to raid a journalist home and office, threats of detention of a journalist for reporting on the investigation have all been characteristic of SOCU since the Brutus investigation started.
On Thursday in Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, the SOCU prosectors were ordered to disclose statements in the Brutus investigation which have the possibility exonerate him, his wife, his driver and the businessman. SOCO in court yesterday admitted that they have been withholding critical information in the case from the court and the lawyers of Brutus.
Each time the matter is called, the SOCU team would be making excuses to the court as to why they are not get ready to proceed with the trial. On Thursday the court found that SOCU was delaying the matter and ordered to the four charged individual to stop showing up at SOCU once a month and in-fact to that every two months.
The court has also ordered SOCU to provide the information to the court where the Ministry of Home Affairs granted Brutus wife’s company permission to do business with the Guyana Police Force. SOCU in its documents and charges, accused Brutus of giving his wife contracts with the Guyana Police Force.
This publication did publish some months back, a document which showed the Ministry of Home Affairs asking the National Tender Board to approve Brutus wife’s company to become a supplier to the Guyana Police Force.
From the beginning of the investigation, the Special Organised Crime Unit has been breaching procedures and adopting unlawful tactics as they sought to build a case against Brutus.
It continues to be alleged that the case involving Brutus has political interferences. Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo is on records as saying that the state is not interfering with the investigations.
Notwithstanding however, the Attorney General has been making bold statements in relation to the Calvin Brutus investigation. Just last week, he suggested that when they court is ready to sentence Brutus wife, there may be an issue since she is presently out of the country.
It is unclear how the Attorney General is so sure about a conviction and sentencing when the matter has not yet gone to trial and when as in the case of yesterday, it became clear that SOCU has been withholding keys documents from the court which may have a bearing on the outcome of the matter.
SOCU is headed by police rank Fizal Karimbaksh
