November 14, 2024 — Minister of Education Priya Manickchand marked a significant step in educational and community engagement yesterday by inaugurating new libraries at Tuschen Primary, Greenwich Park Primary, and Parika Salem Primary Schools.
Beyond the ribbon-cutting ceremonies, Minister Manickchand held public meetings with residents in each community, addressing a range of concerns both within and beyond the education sector.
The new libraries, part of the Ministry’s initiative to expand primary school library access, aim to promote literacy, creativity, and independent learning among students. However, the Minister’s visit extended beyond education, as she took the time to meet with community members to hear their concerns directly.
At Tuschen Primary School, the Minister held a dynamic session with local residents who raised concerns ranging from infrastructure issues to public health and community safety.
Minister Manickchand assured attendees that their feedback would be forwarded to relevant authorities and addressed as part of the government’s development strategy.
In Greenwich Park, the Minister outlined ongoing education reforms aimed at improving both student and teacher experiences.
Parents and teachers highlighted infrastructure needs, transport challenges, and other community issues. Minister Manickchand committed to addressing these concerns, acknowledging that some would require coordinated efforts across multiple government agencies.
During her visit to Parika Salem Primary School, the Minister engaged with parents and educators, answering questions about educational policies while listening to challenges unique to the area. Community concerns such as road conditions and healthcare services were also discussed.
The Minister assured residents that these matters would be relayed to appropriate ministries for further attention.
Minister Manickchand emphasized the government’s commitment to education as a foundation for national development, while also recognizing the need to address broader community needs for sustainable growth.
She thanked residents for their active participation and encouraged continued collaboration with the Ministry to drive meaningful change.
The Libraries in Primary Schools Initiative, which aims to improve access to educational resources, remains a priority for the Ministry. Minister Manickchand reiterated that such initiatives are crucial for fostering intellectual growth and creating well-rounded citizens.
More library openings and community engagements are expected in the coming months as the Ministry continues its mission to enhance educational infrastructure and provide a platform for citizens to voice their needs.
