November 2 2024 – After more than one year on the run, Ghanie Jamie was finally remanded to prison on Friday for the
murder of Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Lieutenant Rondel Douglas.

Ghanie Jamie

Jamie, 26 years of age, whose last known address is South Sophia, Greater Georgetown, appeared
before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’s Courts.

It is alleged that on June 7,2023 at Cul-de-Sac Street, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he murdered
Douglas during the course or furtherance of a robbery.

He was not required to enter a plea to the indicatable charge.

A date has been set for Jamie called ‘Sonny’ to return to court on November 22, 2024. Police
arrested him last week Saturday at Kairuni Backdam, Soesdyke-Linden Highway.

Days after the brutal murder, 38-year-old Randy Clairmont Wrights and Joshua Parris, called
“Stewie”, 26, the prime suspect, were remanded to prison.

A report from the police indicated that 32-year-old Douglas, of Bagotville, West Bank Demerara
(WBD), and a father of one, secured part-time employment as a taxi driver using his Toyota Fielder
wagon with a taxi service based in La Grange, WBD.

The owner of the said taxi service related to police that on the day of the occurrence, an identifiable
male entered the base and hired the soldier for transportation.

A resident of Cul-de-Sac Street reported that around 22:30 hours, he was at home when he heard a
loud noise suspected to be a gunshot, prompting him to look out of his window.

He saw a white Toyota Fielder wagon speeding away from the area and a person, later identified as
Douglas, lying motionless on the ground in a pool of blood.

The victim had visible wounds to the chest and head. According to reports, Parris, along with
Wrights, allegedly confessed to being hired by someone to steal Douglas’s car.

At the time of his passing, Douglas was attached to the GDF Coast Guard.

He enlisted on February 15, 2012, and was a graduate of Standard Officer Course 44. He was also
pursuing a degree in computer science at the University of Guyana where he was a full-time student.

The GDF in a statement had described Douglas as a “committed and dedicated officer.”
