September 26, 2024 – In a landmark event for inclusive education, the Regional Education Department of Region Three is hosting its first-ever Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) training workshop.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Educated noted that the four-day program, a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Education’s SEND Unit and the Guyana Council for Disabilities, aims to enhance educators’ skills and improve learning outcomes for students with special needs.

Six SEND teachers, along with several pupils, are participating in the workshop, which covers key areas such as visual impairments, physical disabilities, and learning disabilities.

The training provides practical instruction on Braille reading and writing, managing behavioral challenges, and supporting students with physical disabilities.

This initiative marks a major advancement in inclusive education for Region Three and highlights the growing focus on ensuring all students receive the support they need to succeed in the classroom.
