The International Building Expo 2024 opened this evening at the Guyana National Stadium, drawing thousands of attendees eager to experience the premier housing event of the season.

The event, celebrated for its grand scale, offers a unique platform for industry professionals, experts, and stakeholders to showcase the latest in construction innovation and sustainability.

Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water, Susan Rodrigues, highlighted the expo’s significance, noting that it is the only event of its kind in the Caribbean.

She emphasized that the expo caters to a wide audience, uniting professionals around a shared vision of sustainable construction. This year, the event has attracted international interest, with participants from the United States, Canada, India, Indonesia, and other countries.

Minister Rodrigues further emphasized that the International Building Expo has become the premier platform for entrepreneurs to launch, expand, and showcase their businesses, providing unmatched networking opportunities.

She also underscored the importance of medium and small-scale businesses in the event, noting that the expo is an opportunity to inspire new ideas and forge partnerships.

Additionally, she highlighted that many attendees would leave the expo as new landowners, reflecting the Ministry’s commitment to expanding homeownership.

Minister of Housing Collin Croal echoed these sentiments, noting that the advancements displayed at the expo mirror the progress made by the Ministry of Housing and Water and the Central Housing and Planning Authority over the past four years.

He highlighted the implementation of the electronic Single Window System, which streamlines the application process for housing services.

Minister Croal announced that over 40,000 house lots are expected to be allocated in 2024, with more than 2,000 lots being distributed during the expo itself.

He acknowledged the growing demand for affordable housing and assured attendees that developments are underway in every administrative region to meet this need.

The expo, he said, features over 450 exhibitors, including 30 international participants, showcasing new products and sustainable construction methods.

President of Guyana, Dr. Irfaan Ali, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing Guyana’s trajectory toward building a strong, sustainable, and resilient economy.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to transforming Guyana into a modern country, highlighting the development of Silica City.

This new city, the president explained, is envisioned as a futuristic, self-sufficient urban center that will harness the power of nature to promote healthy living and innovation.

The International Building Expo 2024, themed “Building on the Foundation of Sustainability and Unity,” runs from August 8 to August 11.
