Major Progress Recorded at De Endragt Phase

The Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) on Saturday intensified oversight of its ongoing housing developments, as Chief Executive Officer Dr. Martin Pertab led a detailed inspection of infrastructure works at Phase II of the De Endragt Housing Scheme on the East Coast of Demerara.

Dr. Pertab was accompanied by Director of Community Development Gladwin Charles and a technical team comprising engineers and surveyors. The visit is part of the agency’s strengthened monitoring strategy to ensure contractors remain on schedule and accelerate works in line with President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali’s mandate for timely delivery of serviced house lots.

More than $3 billion has been allocated for the development of Phase II at De Endragt, covering critical infrastructure including access roads, bridges, culverts, drainage systems and water distribution networks. Contractors executing the works—Doodnauth Construction and Supplies Inc., Fyuse Hoosain Construction Inc., AJM Enterprise, SAWA Investment Inc., Vulcan Group Inc., and Surrey Paving & Aggregate Company Guyana Inc.—are at varying stages of completion, with most now between 75% and 95% finished.

During the inspection, Dr. Pertab underscored the importance of completing the works within the stipulated timeframe to meet the expectations of allottees.

“At the pace we are moving, it is important that these works are completed on time so that allottees can occupy their house lots,” he said. He also reiterated that contractors who fail to meet deadlines or contractual obligations risk being excluded from future CH&PA projects, as their performance directly affects families preparing to start construction.

The inspection reaffirmed CH&PA’s commitment to accountability, timely implementation, and the continued expansion of sustainable housing solutions across Guyana.
