Police Discover and Destroy 250 Pounds of Suspected Cannabis in Victoria Backdam Operation

Police from Regional Division 4C conducted an operation in the Victoria Backlands, East Coast Demerara, leading to the discovery and destruction of approximately 250 pounds of suspected cannabis.

Acting on a tip, officers ventured about three miles from the Victoria access road and encountered a 33-year-old resident of Victoria preparing two plots of land, each about two acres in size.

Upon spotting the police, the suspect fled into dense vegetation, evading capture. Adjacent to the prepared land, officers found a makeshift camp containing several bulky black plastic bags filled with partially dried leaves, seeds, and stems believed to be cannabis.

Additional items at the camp included clothing, a mattress, a hammock, an iPhone, a BLU cellular phone, a Digicel WiFi connector, a National Identification card belonging to the suspect, an electronic tablet, and food supplies.

A search of the area around the camp revealed two suspected cannabis plants, each about two feet tall, in a small bucket. The estimated weight of the discovered cannabis was around 250 pounds.

The police destroyed the partially dried cannabis and the camp by fire, while samples and the plants were taken to the Cove and John Police Station for further analysis. Investigations are ongoing
