Former Cop Found Not Guilty of Conspiring to Kill MFK

Former policeman Leyon Lindo was on September 17 formally found not guilty of conspiring to murder businessman Mohamed Faraad Khan.
Lindo had been charged with plotting alongside Lennox Wayne, also known as “Two Colours,” to kill the Georgetown businessman, whose decapitated body was discovered in September 2014 at Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara.
The discovery of Khan’s body shocked the nation. Reports at the time detailed gruesome mutilations: one leg was missing from the knee down, the foot of the other leg had been severed, and his head was found inside a plastic bag nearby.
Khan was the proprietor of MFK Trading, and his murder remains one of the most disturbing criminal cases in recent Guyanese history.
Lindo was first charged in May 2015 following investigations into the murder. After a preliminary inquiry, a Georgetown magistrate in January 2017 committed him to stand trial, concluding that the prosecution had established a prima facie case.
Lindo remained out on cash bail while awaiting the trial’s hearing and determination.
During the trial, the prosecution’s case suffered a critical blow. Its main witness could not be contacted despite the issuance of two subpoenas.
Neither subpoena was successfully served, as the witness was reportedly unavailable at the addresses provided. Although the witness claimed to be out of the country, immigration checks revealed that the individual was still in Guyana.
The prosecution requested an adjournment to secure the witness’s attendance.
However, Justice Simone Morris, presiding over the High Court case in Demerara, denied the request and ordered that all witnesses be made available by 1:15 pm the following day (September 17).
Despite this, the prosecution failed to produce any witnesses or additional evidence to support the charge against Lindo.
Following the absence of key testimony, the jury was instructed by the judge to deliver a formal verdict of not guilty, effectively clearing Lindo of all involvement in the conspiracy to murder Khan.
Lindo, represented by defence attorney Dexter Todd, maintained a firm plea of not guilty throughout the proceedings. The case had been led on behalf of the prosecution by State Counsel Padma Dubraj.
