Today, the Government’s Home Mortgage Initiative outreach was held at Timehri Base Camp Road, aimed at assisting newly documented landowners from Timehri and nearby areas in their journey towards homeownership.
The event was spearheaded by Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal; Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister, Kwame McCoy; and CEO of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), Sherwyn Greaves.
They were joined by staff from the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission and representatives from several banking institutions.
This outreach provided a platform for new landowners to meet with banks and pre-qualify for mortgages. Additionally, the CH&PA offered support through the Steel and Cement Voucher Initiative, designed to aid in the construction of house foundations.
Nearly 130 individuals registered for the program, including former Hill Foot squatters who are now allottees at Swan.
Minister Croal highlighted the initiative’s critical role in helping families create secure living environments. He urged participants to support sustainable housing efforts by discouraging squatting and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that every Guyanese can become a homeowner. “It is the vision of President Irfaan Ali to make comfortable living affordable for all,” he stated.
Attendees expressed joy at successfully completing transactions during the event, bringing them closer to homeownership.
Minister McCoy emphasized the importance of vigilance against squatting, citing its negative impact on communities. He encouraged residents to contribute to the government’s efforts in fostering organized and sustainable housing development.
