US Under-Sec for arms control to meet local press

The United States Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security will meet Guyanese journalists through a press conference on Friday, June 14, 2024. The Press Conference will be held at the United States Embassy.
In a statement Tuesday morning, the Embassy in Georgetown said Ambassador Bonnie Jenkins will visit Guyana from June 12-15. Her engagement locally is geared at continuing discussions with partners on issues of multilateral cooperation including regional security.
Guyana has been partnering with several organizations over the years to stem the flow of illicit drugs and weapons through its borders which have been considered hot-spot transshipment points to move those items to other parts of the world.
Ambassador Bonnie Jenkins, PhD, has served as the Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security since July 22, 2021 and oversees the Arms Control, Deterrence and Stability Bureau; the International Security and Nonproliferation Bureau (ISN); and the Political-Military Affairs Bureau.
In addition, as of May 2023, Secretary of State Antony Blinken named Under Secretary Jenkins as the senior official to lead the Department’s efforts on AUKUS implementation. Jenkins has the honor of being the first African American to serve as an Under Secretary of State.
