ANGER MANAGEMENT TRAINING FOR PRISON INMATES
The Guyana Prison Service in it’s bid to ensure the smooth reintegration of inmates into society after sentence completion has been embarking on a number of measures and means to achieve this objective.
On Tuesday thirty four inmates including five females all from the New Amsterdam Prison, graduated from an Anger Management Facilitated ; Solutions Training Consultancy program.
Over the last few years, the prison system in Guyana has seen what some call unprecedented levels of violence at prisons mainly in New Amsterdam, Lusignan and Camp Street.
These acts of violence and also unrest have almost flattened the Camp Street Jail and which has forced government to now be investing in a more universal style of holding cell for inmates as well as mulling the construction of a new prison in Georgetown.
The violence and unrest over the last few years have resulted in deaths of inmates and even at least one prison officer.
