Rodrigues requests full assessment of communities on the Corentyne Coast

Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water Susan Rodrigues has requested an urgent and complete assessment of four communities on the Corentyne Coast in desperate need of attention.

In a brief interview on the sidelines of an event, Rodrigues explained that the assessment is necessary to determine what moves the ministry will make in order to properly address the concerns of the residents. The four communities are Fort Ordinance, Chesney New Housing Scheme, Babu John and Anchorville.

“The Regional Manager for GWI will be visiting every community that I went to today, and I want a full assessment of the needs of all four of the communities so I can make definitive decisions on how we can intervene,” Rodrigues noted.

The minister, who also committed to donating more than 30 Street lights to the communities, explained that it is important for these lights to be installed immediately.

“The street lights…have to be installed immediately. I don’t want the lights to come and to not be installed,” she indicated.

Additionally, the Minister said that her ministry will urgently look into the rehabilitation of the roads, particularly those in Anchorville, which she admitted are currently in a “deplorable state”. “I am not going to visit these communities and leave and nothing happens, that’s not my style,” Rodrigues affirmed.

The comments from the minister come on the heels of a full day interaction with the communities on Friday, to listen to and address the concerns of the residents in the four communities.
