President Dr. Irfaan Ali on Tuesday appointed three persons to serve on the Police Service (PSC) for the next three years. The fourth person was unavoidably absent.

Those members are former Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Labour Mr. Patrick Findlay, former CANU Officer Mr. Lloyd Mark Conway and Businessman Mr. Ornesto Choo-a-fat. The fourth person, Mr. Hakim Mohamed was absent and will be sworn in at a later date.

The appointments were made at the Office of the President.

The Head of State in brief remarks said “I have the confidence that the Guyanese appointed today does not only have the skills but they have the character to execute the duties that they are called upon to execute.”

The Police Service Commission is the constitutional body that is responsible for the appointment and disciplinary action against police officers above the rank of Inspector.

The nominees were approved by the National Assembly in April 2022.

The appointments came one day after Opposition Leader Aubrey Norton refused to attend a scheduled meeting with the President on the appointments.

The President also appointed members of the Integrity Commission at Tuesday’s event. Those members are Dr Jocelin Kim Kyte-Thomas; Chandra Gajraj, Mohamed Ispahani Haniff, Hardesh Tewari and Wayne Bowman.
