Man, 88, Suspected of Killing Wife, 89, Found Dead

88-Y-O murder suspect Michael Raymond Haralall Tamassar, also known as “Mike,” a pensioner of Lot 8 Ogle Airstrip Road, East Coast Demerara, has been found dead.
According to police, the death is reported to have occurred on Thursday, January 8, 2026, between 7:00 a.m. and 9:38 a.m. at the Bladen Hall School Compound Living Quarters, East Coast Demerara.
Tamassar who reportedly suffers from dementia was last seen alive at about 7:00 a.m. by his son, with whom he resided.
He was later discovered unresponsive in the living room at approximately 9:38 a.m.
Detectives examined the body at the scene and observed no marks of violence on the exposed areas.
The elderly man was subsequently escorted to the Buxton Health Centre, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty.
The body has since been taken to the Memorial Gardens Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
He was the main suspect in the alleged murder of his 89-y-o wife Lackandai Tamessar also called ‘Aunty Betty’ who was discovered dead on December 30th at her Ogle Airstrip Road, East Coast Demerara home with stab wounds about her body.
Following a psychiatric evaluation and an explanation as to how his wife died, he was released from police custody.
According to reports, the man related to officers that his wife had fallen and hit her head and he had later attempted to move her body with a cutlass and this was how incision wounds were made.
