The Guyana Police Force has released a statement following a meeting with the family and attorneys of the late Adriana Younge to address concerns related to the ongoing investigation into her death.

See full statement below:

“The Guyana Police Force (GPF) wishes to inform the public that on Tuesday, May 7, 2025, Commissioner of Police Mr. Clifton Hicken, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Budhram, Deputy Commissioner McBean and Superintendent Baird, Head of Office of Professional
Responsibility met with Attorneys-at-Law Mr. Dexter Todd and Mr. Eusi Anderson, as well as relatives of the late Adriana Younge. This meeting, held at the request of Dr. Todd in the Commissioner’s Board Room, was convened to address questions and concerns raised by the family.

The Police Force welcomed this engagement as an opportunity to demonstrate its commitment to transparency, accountability, and diligent investigative work.

Several questions were answered during the meeting, while others, due to the sensitive and evolving nature of the investigation, required further verification and were deferred for written response following
consultation with the investigative team.

It is important to note that this meeting was conducted in a confidential setting, in good faith, and with the shared understanding that the primary goal was to maintain open lines of communication with the family through their legal representatives.

The Force reiterated its commitment to keeping the family informed within the boundaries of legal and procedural
requirements.

At the meeting, the attorneys were assured that the investigation into the tragic death of
Adriana Younge is being pursued with the utmost seriousness and care. The following pointswere clarified:

• The investigation is ongoing, with all leads and evidence actively being pursued.

• Water samples from the pool were collected and have been sent overseas for
independent forensic analysis.

• Oversight of the investigation is being maintained at the senior level to ensure
thoroughness and impartiality.

• Any information not provided during the meeting was withheld only to safeguard the
integrity of the investigation and avoid compromising its outcomes.

• Surely Mr. Todd who served the Guyana Police Force for a number of years in various capacity including that of Personal Assist to a former Commissioner of Police, would understand the need for the careful handling of, and dissemination of information pertaining to any investigation that is active.

The Guyana Police Force wishes to reassure the public that every measure is being taken to ensure a thorough, transparent, and accountable process.

The Force remains steadfast in its duty to bring clarity and closure to this tragic situation, and we deeply appreciate the patience and understanding of the Younge family and the wider public as the investigation proceeds.

The GPF remains committed to upholding public trust and delivering justice with integrity and professionalism.”
