February 25 2026
Construction of the new Jawalla Secondary School in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) is progressing well, following an inspection on Tuesday by Education Minister Sonia Parag.
This is according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Education earlier today.
The minister was joined by Deputy Chief Education Officer for Amerindian and Hinterland Education Development, Marti De Souza, along with the project’s contractor and consultant.
The $231.9 million project has shown notable improvement over the past few months.
According to Minister Parag, the new school is expected to significantly reduce overcrowding at existing institutions and provide a more conducive learning environment for students transitioning from Primary Top.
She urged the contractor to maintain momentum and accelerate works where possible, with the aim of completing the facility ahead of the September 2026 academic term.
While some finishing works are still outstanding, the minister expressed confidence that the project can be delivered on time.
The Ministry of Education has assured that the construction will continue to be closely monitored to ensure the school is completed as scheduled and ready to serve students in the region.
