15kg of cannabis seized at CJIA, U.S. passenger arrested

Officers of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) seized a significant quantity of cannabis at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
Acting on intelligence received, CANU ranks searched an incoming passenger arriving from the United States of America. During the search, officers discovered several transparent parcels containing foreign cannabis.
The narcotics were subsequently escorted to CANU’s headquarters, where they were weighed and confirmed to total 15.758 kilograms.
The passenger, identified as Bradley Hibbert, a 36-year-old security officer of Lot 759 Hendrix Street, Brooklyn, New York, was arrested and taken into custody as investigations continue.
CANU has indicated that further inquiries are ongoing into the matter.
