DEAD: Ganeshwar Jahaman

Ganeshwar Sookdai Jahaman of Number 73 Village Corentyne Berbice was killed earlier today when the tractor he was operating toppled in the Backdam of Number 72 village.

BIG Smith News Watch was told that the 50-year-old was pinned under the tractor for a while before he was rescued.

His relatives indicated that he has been working the Backdam and operating tractors for more than a decade and his demise came while he was ploughing a rice field and engaging in land preparation.

“The tractor got stuck in the mud and as he was trying to manoeuvre his way out, the front of the tractor was lifted into the air and flipped backward and he got pinned down when it turned over” a relative told this publication on Saturday.

We were told that he died on the spot as it took other persons who were in the Backdam at the time to notice the distress which he was in.

Jahaman,  also known as ‘Dougla’ was said to be a very outgoing person who was helpful to fellow community members. He was also described as a father of one who lived alone.

The man’s only daughter lives in the United States. It is unclear if she will be able to make it to Guyana for his funeral given the current coronavirus travel restrictions, currently still in effect for incoming international flight to Guyana.
