April 7, 2025 –A police operation in Wismar ended in tragedy on Monday, when 26-year-old Ronaldo Peters was fatally shot during an attempted arrest by ranks from the Wismar Police Station.

Dead: Ronaldo Peters

According to a police report, the incident occurred at approximately 17:30 hrs. A police sergeant acting on information that Peters—who was wanted for questioning in connection with an alleged rape of a child under 16—was spotted at Shabba Bar in One Mile, Wismar, Linden, led a team of officers to the location.

Police said Peters attempted to flee upon seeing the officers and tried to scale a nearby fence. The sergeant reportedly pulled Peters from the fence and, during the struggle to subdue him, the officer’s 9mm service pistol discharged. Peters was struck in the lower right side of his abdomen.

He was rushed to the Mackenzie Public Hospital but succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment. A medical examination confirmed a single gunshot wound to his lower abdomen. His body has since been transferred to the Pensioners Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is pending.

The police sergeant involved in the incident is currently under close arrest and has been transferred to the Tactical Services Unit (TSU). The Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) has launched a full investigation into the shooting.

This latest police-involved fatality has sparked community outrage in Wismar, where tensions remain high following the incident.
