FOUR STUDENTS CONFESSED TO SETTING SCHOOL ON FIRE.

The Guyana Police Force has confirmed that the fire which partially destroyed the St. Angela Girls’ Hostel in Karasabai Village South Pakarimas, which occurred between 02:30hrs and 03:00hrs today was maliciously set.

 

Four male students had previously threatened to set fire to the building after they were chased from the premises by the caretaker. They made good on their promise at the time mentioned but all the female students were able to make it to safety while an alarm was raised and police of Karasabai Police Station and villagers immediately formed a bucket brigade and extinguished the fire.

 

The four alleged suspects were contacted and interviewed by the police in the presence of Commander Region #9, the Regional Education Officer Region #9 and their parents and they all confessed to the planning and executing of the crime.

 

Investigations revealed that the affected building is occupied by nineteen students between the ages of 11yrs to 16yrs.

 

The alleged suspects are presently in custody assisting with further investigations
