American Airlines blasted for flight delays, “unacceptable” treatment of passengers

American Airlines (AA) has recorded a 44% delay in its flights from Guyana to the United States of America in the past six months, according to the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce. The Ministry in a statement on Friday expressed concerns noting that an average of two flights monthly have been cancelled.

“The Government of Guyana has received numerous complaints about the manner in which customers are treated when there are cancellations,” the Ministry added.

The ministry said while it is appreciative of the fact the AA continues to serve the Guyana route, “this quality of service is untenable and not in keeping with government’s business, tourism and developmental agenda [and] poor treatment of passengers is unacceptable.”

Further, passengers who have sought refunds for flight cancellations, have been experiencing difficulties. The affected persons are asked to file official complaints with the Competition and Consumer Affairs Commission (CCAC) so that their issues may be formally addressed.

In August, the BigSmith News Watch reported that several passengers who travelled from various parts of the country were left to sleep on the floor of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) after the Airlines cancelled its flight four times.
