Guyana’s President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali on Saturday marshalled his security forces to a high-level meeting as the United States carried out strikes on Venezuela and captured its President, Nicholas Maduro, and his wife Cilia Flores.
In an Official Facebook Post, President Ali said he met with the Defence Board, the National Security architecture, regional commanders, and other security officials amid the ongoing situation in Venezuela.
Earlier Saturday morning, President Ali, when contacted by this publication, did say the situation in Venezuela was being monitored.
He did say the security posture of the State of Guyana is to ensure and consider the safety of all Guyanese and the country’s borders. The Guyanese Head of State also noted that the Caribbean Community (Caricom) Secretariat and the Secretary-General have been informed of the development. President Ali said he has nothing further to add at the moment since the situation in Venezuela is still active.
Also on Saturday, after President Trump announced the capture of Maduro and his wife, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that there were no further strikes expected in Venezuela. The United States is expected to host a press conference at 11 Am at Mar-A-Lago, Florida
