President of the United States Donald J. Trump has announced on his Truth Social that Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro and his wife were captured on Saturday morning after the US launched in Caracas, Venezuela’s capital.
“The United States of America has successfully carried out a large-scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicholas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the country. This operation was done in conjunction with U.S. Law Enforcement. Details to follow. There will be a new conference today at 11 A.M., at Mar-a-Lago. Thank you for your attention to this matter, President DONALD J. TRUMP.” A post by President Trump said on Saturday.
The United States had placed a fifty-million US reward for the capture of Nicholas Maduro, who the US said was wanted for drug-related crimes.
In Caracas, the Defence Minister said the strikes on Saturday also targeted civilians, but no supporting evidence has been provided just yet to support the claims.
The strikes on Venezuela hit the world just around 02:00 AM Saturday and were largely reported by persons within Venezuela as targeting Nicholas Maduro’s Presidential Palace and military facilities.
Venezuela’s government has since called on its supporters to take to the streets and has also announced that they are unable to locate their president and first Lady and are calling for proof of life.
Over the last few months, the United States has been launching airstrikes on boats off the coast of Venezuela, which they stated were taking drugs into the United States.
