Truck Driver Arrested in Fatal Hit-and-Run at Supply, EBD

August 14 2025
Police have apprehended David Ragnauth, the truck driver accused of striking down and killing 22-year-old Alex Persaud at Supply, East Bank Demerara, before fleeing the scene.
According to reports, Divisional Commander Wayne DeHarte coordinated a sting operation that led to the suspect’s arrest on the evening of Wednesday, August 12.
Acting on intelligence, Superintendent DeHarte lured the suspect—who was hiding out in Parika, East Bank Essequibo—by telling him via phone that he could collect money for his travels. The driver was provided with a description of the vehicle he was to meet, which was being driven by DeHarte himself.
The operation, which also involved assistance from the suspect’s employer, ended when the driver arrived at the West Bank section of the Demerara Harbour Bridge around 7:30 p.m., where he was immediately taken into custody.
The suspect reportedly claimed he did not see Persaud at the time of the collision. However, police confirmed that the two men had a prior altercation and were due to appear in court together on Monday, August 18.
