‘Trini’ Sentenced to 30 Years for Murder of Taxi Driver

December 17 2025
Kenty Bacchus, called “Trini,” a welder formerly of Water Street, Kingston, Georgetown, was sentenced on Tuesday to 30 years’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to the June 2021 murder of taxi driver Kenrick Trim.
His co-accused, Seyon James, known as “Lil Alfey,” is expected to be sentenced later this week.
Bacchus, 38, and James had earlier admitted before Acting Chief Justice Navindra Singh in the Demerara High Court that they killed the 53-year-old Belfield Housing Scheme resident during a robbery.
In handing down the sentence, the court adopted a starting point of 40 years’ imprisonment.
After accounting for deductions for Bacchus’ early guilty plea, the plea deal, and both aggravating and mitigating factors, the final sentence was set at 30 years, with the prison responsible for crediting time already spent on remand.
During sentencing, the court was informed that Bacchus has prior convictions for possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
On one occasion, he was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment, and on another he was fined $57,000 or, in default, ordered to serve three months’ imprisonment.
According to the agreed facts, on the morning of June 30, 2021, James and Bacchus entered Trim’s taxi, registration HC5311, outside Beacon Café on Carmichael Street, Georgetown.
Once inside, they overpowered the driver by choking him, stabbed him multiple times, and stole his valuables.
The victim’s body was later abandoned in bushes behind Pradoville, Ogle, East Coast Demerara.
A post-mortem examination found that Trim died from haemorrhage and shock due to multiple stab wounds, along with compression injuries to the neck.
Police later recovered Trim’s cellphone from Bacchus, who subsequently gave recorded video and audio interviews admitting his involvement and identifying both himself and James on CCTV footage.
James, who also pleaded guilty, remains before the court and is scheduled to be sentenced later this week.
