Additional reshuffling within police takes effect today

Commissioner of Police acting Nigel Hoppie

Commissioner of Police acing Nigel Hoppie confirmed to BIG Smith News Watch that he already instructed divisional and regional commanders to ensure added reinforcements in and around key points and vulnerable points within the country including at state buildings and infrastructure as the transition of government has commenced.

This publication reached out to the Commissioner of Police after we asked President Irfaan Ali about the systems in place to protect these buildings and assets during the transition period.

“Well I think we have already made it very clear and we are calling on accounting officers to ensure that government assets, that they are protected and to ensure that they are intact and I am sure this would have been taken very seriously,” President Irfaan Ali told the media on Sunday

Ali was also asked about the transition team that will be meeting with the Opposition as the reins of government changes hands and he indicated Bharrat Jagdeo who was sworn in as Vice president will be heading the transition team on Government’s behalf.

Immediately after his swearing-in as president earlier today, Ali swore in Mark Phillips as Prime Minister, Bharrat Jagdeo as Vice President, Gail Teixeira as Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance and Anil Nandlall as Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs.

The heads of the Joint Services and the Guyana Fire Service met with the President and his high-level team as they each submitted a brief on the current status quo in the country as it relates to the various aspect of their operations and on which the president and Commander In Chief ought to be appraised on.

Within the last two months, there has been a number of fires which targeted homes, public buildings and at least one embassy in Georgetown.
