Teenagers Hospitalised After Violent Clash at Corentyne Comprehensive High School

Two 16-year-old schoolboys were hospitalised on Monday afternoon following a violent altercation at the Corentyne Comprehensive High School (CCHS), which escalated to the point where police were called in to restore order.

Information reaching this publication indicates that the incident began shortly after 2 p.m., when a student from the J.C. Chandisingh Secondary School allegedly ventured onto the CCHS compound and entered one of the classrooms. There, he reportedly launched an unprovoked attack on a student of that institution.

The CCHS student—who appeared to be in uniform—was said not to have attended school earlier in the day.

The situation quickly intensified as the J.C. Chandisingh student then turned his aggression toward other students on the premises.

Teachers and the school’s security personnel attempted to intervene, but their efforts were unsuccessful in subduing the teenager.

The Guyana Police Force was subsequently summoned. However, video footage seen by this publication shows the J.C. Chandisingh student breaking free from police officers and continuing to physically assault students before he was once again restrained.

Sources close to the investigation believe that the altercation may have stemmed from an old grievance among the boys, though no official confirmation has been provided.

Both teenagers were later released into the custody of their parents and taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital, where they were treated for head injuries and other wounds sustained during the ordeal.

Authorities are continuing their investigations into the matter.
