GDF EXPLOSION UPDATE: Lance Corporals, Private and Sargent identified as victims

GDF EXPLOSION UPDATE: Lance Corporals, Private and Sargent identified as victims

A Guyana Defense Force Sargent is being prepared to be air dashed from Base Camp Stephenson following this morning’s explosion which claimed the lives of three junior ranks. The injured Sargent has been identified as Sergeant Tryfall.

The dead have been identified as Lance Corporals Peneux, Nicholson, and Private DeHearte.

BIG Smith News Watch has been informed that the men received severe burns to their bodies and at least one of them sufferance extensive disfiguration as a result of a blast which came from one or more bombs which they were defusing at the time. In images seen by this publication, severe damage to the face, amputation, and chest injuries were just some of  what the ranks suffered as a result of the explosion. The images in this article are blurred as they are very graphic.

GDF Sources have indicated that the incident took place at approximately 09:45 on Thursday.

Back in February of this year, one soldier died and several others were injured when ranks wore forced to jump into the Demerara River and others ran for their lives after there was an explosion at the Coast Guard Base where the ranks were offloading explosives from a truck for a fireworks display.

The Guyana Defense Force in a statement this morning stated that they are investigating the circumstances surrounding an explosion that took place at the 09:00hrs today at its Arm Stores Complex, at Timehri which has left three soldiers dead and one injured.

The statement further noted that the soldiers were at the time preparing for pyrotechnics for the demolition when the incident occurred and that the injured rank is currently receiving medical care.
