Police in Regional Division #6 are probing a serious accident that occurred just before midnight on Monday, November 24, 2025, along the Berbice River Bridge Access Road at Palmyra, East Canje Berbice.

The accident involved motor car PAJ 1625, driven by a 57-year-old man from Martin Luther Housing Scheme, New Amsterdam. Three passengers were in the vehicle at the time.

According to initial investigations, the car was travelling east along the northern driving lane at an alleged high speed when the driver reportedly lost control and crashed into a culvert on the southern side of the roadway.

All four occupants—including the driver—sustained injuries. The injured persons have been identified as:

  • The 57-year-old driver

  • A 30-year-old woman of Islington Village, East Bank Berbice

  • A 7-year-old student of Islington Village

  • A 66-year-old woman from South Ozone Park, New York, USA

Public-spirited citizens and EMT personnel assisted the victims and transported them to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where they were examined and treated.

Three of the injured individuals have been admitted with fractures and other serious injuries, while the 30-year-old woman is being treated for soft-tissue injuries.

The vehicle has been lodged as the investigation continues.
