-Stabroek Area Undergoing Beautification

The Ministry of Local Government has announced that beautification works are underway in the Stabroek area as part of an effort to create a public-friendly space similar to the one located opposite the Parliament Buildings.

The upgraded area will be open to vendors, shoppers, commuters, and the wider public once completed.

According to the Ministry, the project includes raising the flooring, installing park benches, adding decorative features, and creating a designated space for artistes to perform.

The aim is to enhance the atmosphere around Stabroek while improving safety and comfort for those who frequent the area.

Officials stressed that no vendors are being displaced as a result of the works. Construction is taking place in a section where vending is not currently occurring and is expected to be completed in just under two weeks.

With the holiday season approaching, the Ministry said it anticipates that the upgraded space will help boost commercial activity in and around the market by providing a more inviting environment for both sellers and shoppers.

See full statement here:

“The Ministry of Local Government is beautifying the Stabroek area by creating a space similar to the space opposite Parliament Buildings that will be wholly accessible to the public, including vendors, shoppers and commuters.
The floor will be raised, park benches will be put down, decorations will go up and a space for artistes to perform will be available.
To be clear, NO vendor is being moved from the Stabroek Market area at this point and for this reason.
The construction of this space is being done where vending is not currently happening and is expected to last for just under two weeks. When completed, it will look similar to the depiction below.
The Ministry is very conscious that the Christmas season is upon us and expects this space to cause more sales in and around the market in a safe, relaxing space.”
